As one of the most highly-regarded side dishes in the world, the French fry has been made in a variety of ways by countless restaurants. OMGLists counts down our five favorite, most mouth-wateringly tasty incarnations of the French fry ever to enter our greasy gullets. Everything on this list can be purchased and enjoyed from numerous locations, so don't expect to find your favorite mom-and-pop place listed here. But feel free to mention them in the comments!
5- Claim Jumper's Salt and Pepper Shoestring Fries

West Coast restaurant chain Claim Jumper's super-crispy shoestring fries are often imitated by other restaurants, but rarely do they successfully capture what makes this mouth-watering side order so damn good. These skinny fries are battered and then heavily coated with salt and pepper. To make Claim Jumper's savory seasoned fries even more mind-bendingly delicious, ask for a side of Jumper's homemade blue cheese dressing to dip them in.
What's special about them: Like McDonalds' fries, there may not appear to be anything out of the ordinary about Claim Jumper's fries, but after one bite of these crunchy strips of potato you'll know why we've included them on this list.
4- Outback's Aussie Cheese Fries

A more accurate name for these fries would be "the last thing you order before you die," but that's not quite as punchy as Aussie Cheese Fries. Not only is this heart attack-educing, but tasty, platter brimming with fries, it's smothered with melted cheese and bacon. To top it all off, Outback serves this "appetizer" with a giant bowl of ranch dressing.
What's special about them: There are cheese fries and then there are Aussie Cheese Fries. I'd take the later any day of the week. Sure, devouring a mountain of fried potatoes, bacon, ranch, and cheese is horrible for you, but you can't take your perfect health to the afterlife.
3- In-N-Out's "Animal Style" Fries

In-N-Out's deliciously gooey "Animal Style" French fries make look like a basket of vomit, but I think that 9 out of 10 people who've been fortunate enough to pleasure their taste buds with this fatty "secret menu item" will tell you that it's one of the yummiest fast food dishes on Earth.
What's special about them: In-N-Out's trademark fresh French fries are served swimming in the restaurant's thousand island salad dressing-like sauce and covered with grilled onions and pickles. It's the perfect complement to In-N-Out's famous burgers, but can be thoroughly enjoyed by themselves.
2- McDonald's Fries

Though calorific on an almost deadly scale, McDonald's famous French fries are some of the most flavorsome fries you'll come across (even if food snobs won't admit it). There's something almost magical about Mickey D's fries, where you can always identify their orgasmic salty aroma as something only McDonald's fries smell like.
What's special about them: At first glance, they appear to be plain old, no frills, run of the mill, everyday, boring French fries, but it's the subtle touches, like the amount of salt sprinkled across them and how long they stay submerged in the boiling oil of the deep fryer, that make these fries taste so unbelievably good. McDonald's founder Ray Kroc wasn't kidding when he said in his autobiography that McDonald's fries' "preparation [is] a ritual to be followed religiously."
1- Gordon Biersch Garlic Fries

Oddly enough, the garlic fries you can order at the actual Gordon Biersch sit-down restaurants aren't even a fraction as good as the ones sold at ball park stadiums. Wolfing down Gordon Biersch's garlic fries almost certainly guarantees heartburn, but it's always worth it.
What's special about them: Gordon Biersch's beer is only so-so, but their garlic fries, which are loaded with fresh Gilroy garlic, are out of this world. If you don't attend many professional sports games, Trader Joes sells an equally as awesome tasting knock off in their frozen section.
